There is a lot of fighting in Hindu scripture - Vedas, itihasas (Ramayana and Mahabharata) and the Puranas (18 "major" and 18 "minor") to name a few genres.
But only in the genre of Itihasa and Purana are "celestial" (divyastras) weapons with fantastic powers (fire weapon,rain weapon,even a "yawning" weapon etc.) mentioned and are said to be invokable purely from the mind.
Is there an explanation why they are not mentioned either before or after the itihasapuranas?
