Feb 16, 2018 at 19:34 comment added user1618 @NuloenTheSeeker - Almost all the ones I have seen or heard of or read about have, where ascribed a gender, been male. Very occasionally people make couples, consisting of one male and one female. And - at least in my British English - the word "snowman" often carries a subsidiary stress on "man", which points to maleness, unlike words such as "policeman" or "fireman" where the "man" tends to be unstressed and where the meaning can be generic.
